Randy Prescott
Success Story
Seventy-six-year-old Randy Prescott, a retired golf shop manager from Loveland, Colorado, has been married to his wife Cheryl for 20 years. When not spending time with his family, he enjoys golfing and traveling. Life took an unexpected turn when Randy was found slumped over and struggling with his speech. After seeking medical care, he was diagnosed as having a stroke. Following initial care at an acute care hospital, he was referred by the hospital to Northern Colorado Rehabilitation Hospital (NCRH) for inpatient rehabilitation due to its proximity to his family.
Upon admission to NCRH, Randy faced challenges, including upper extremity weakness and the need for maximum assistance with transfers and activities of daily living. His rehabilitation goals focused on increasing strength, endurance, gait, and language skills. During his stay, he worked with the hospital’s interdisciplinary healthcare team, including physical, occupational, and speech therapists, to regain his independence.
“The therapists are excellent; they’re a wonderful and caring staff,” Randy says. “They were encouraging and pushed me to achieve my goals.”
After 27 days at NCRH, Randy returned home, continuing with outpatient physical and occupational therapy at NCRH.
“I chose to continue my outpatient therapy here because of the wonderful staff,” Randy says. “The therapists are kind, giving, and encouraging.”
Randy’s goal is to walk independently again, and he is on his way, having walked 50 feet with a walker. His ultimate goal is to return to the golf course.
